Jack L. Anderson D.V.M., 69 of Columbus, Nebraska passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 14 at 2:00 PM at the Federated Church in Columbus with Pastor Irene O'Brien officiating. Military Honors will be
conducted by the Columbus Legion Hartman Post 84 Honor Guard.
Jack was born to Harold and May(Pope) Anderson on May 18,1942, in Hastings, Nebraska. He graduated from Sutton High School, Sutton, Nebraska in 1959. He received his DVM degree from Kansas State University in 1965. Jack then served 2 years as a captain in the Air Force Veterinary Corps. Jack was united in marriage to Patricia Gell. He owned a mixed animal practice in Sycamore, Illinois from 1967-1978. He moved to Columbus and founded and practiced in a swine-consulting practice from 1978-2005. Jack also owned and managed small animal practices in Fremont and Grand Island. He graduated from Swine Executive Program at the University of Illinois in 1992. Jack retired in 2007.
Dr. Anderson served as vice-president of the Northern Illinois Veterinary Medical Association, district president of the Nebraska Veterinary Medical Association, national president of the American Association of Swine Veterinarians and served 14 years as Trustee of the American Veterinary Associaiton General Health Life Insurance Trust. He taught a 15-hour swine production and health course at the Central Community College, Platte Campus from 1985-1988.
He received the NVMA Distinguished Service Award in 1999 and the Kansas State College of Veterinary Medicine Alumni Award in 2002 and again in 2011. Dr. Anderson was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Scottish Rite, Sesostris Shrine Temple , Elks Lodge,NVMA,AVMA, AASV,and the Federated Church.
