AKRON, Iowa -- Arta Anderson Akers, 100, formerly of Akron passed away Oct. 27,2009.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Friday in Akron Riverside Cemetery.

Arta was the sixth child born to W.C. and Mary Anderson of Akron, Iowa, on Aug. 15, 1909. She was born in their home built by W.C., across from the old Akron High School.

Arta married Samuel Forrest "Frosty" Akers in 1929 (also from Akron). They had one daughter, Jean. Arta resided in the Chicago area most of her adult life, until she moved to Arizona in 1997, after the passing of her daughter.

Arta was an active member of Northwest (Swedish) Covenant Church in Mt. Prospect, Ill., where she enjoyed missionary sewing and wonderful friendships. She also enjoyed gardening, reading and helping others. Most of all, she loved her family and showed that love by her care giving, acts of service and great baking. She was dearly loved and will be missed but left a beautiful legacy.

She is survived by two granddaughters, Tara Gillock Kissane of Arizona, and Dayle Gillock Obuchowski of Illinois; four great-grandchildren, Joel, Lindsey, Dane and Kara; and two great-great-grandsons, Taylor and Renn.

She was preceded in death by her husband, S.F. Akers in 1963; a daughter, Jean, in 1997; as well as her parents; and six siblings.
