Deceased Name: Don Leland Anderson
UT United States Don Leland Anderson 1929 ~ 2006 Don Anderson, 76, passed away in his sleep at home in St George, UT after a lingering illness.
He was born Sept. 9, 1929 in Salt Lake City, UT to Leland E. and Blanche Hunsaker Anderson, was raised in Manti, and in 1951 received a degree in Pharmacy from the Univ. of Utah.
Upon graduating he joined the Navy where he was trained as a Corpsman and placed in charge of the hospital pharmacy at Portsmouth Naval Base, NH. Discharged in 1955, he became a medical representative for Burroughs Welcome & Co. settling in Salt Lake City.
He met his wife, Patricia Brown, while in Portsmouth, were married in Fort Wayne, IN May 6, 1953 and were sealed in the Jordan River Temple Jan. 12, 1991.
They had two sons while at Portsmouth, Leland Blaine born Jan. 23, 1954 who died Jan. 11, 1957 and Leslie Charles born Feb. 5, 1955.
After settling in Salt Lake City, Raymond Reed was born Dec. 21, 1961.
On March 31, 2000 they resettled in St. George.
Don loved the outdoors, especially their home in the mountains, a cabin in Manti Canyon. There they spent many days as a family, hunting and fishing and just having fun with the boys and many great friends. Duck hunting out at the Great Salt Lake with his sons, friends, and dog, Mandy, was also a favorite. The ducks and geese won't be missing him. As an avid hunter, he was often heard telling his hunting companions they were "burning daylight", while it was still night. Who knew the ducks and deer were up at that hour? He loved the desert and rock hounding, dug Idaho fire opal and turned it into jewelry to the delight of friends, doctors and nurses everywhere. His exposure to the land as a child stayed with him to the end as he loved to garden and was known for his "overproduction" of fruits and vegetables. As a husband he provided quality control for every batch of candy or cookies that came out of the kitchen. Known for his sense of humor and love of people, he will be missed.
He is preceded in death by parents; son, Leland; two sisters, Sharon and Shirley; and brother-in-law, Dion Frazier.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Pat; sons, Les (Mary) and Ray (Michelle); grandchildren, Andrew, Carlie, and Matthew; sisters, Helen (James) Thornton, Lois (Gerald) Hayward, Faye Frazier; and brother-in-law, Stanford Cazier.
