Donald L. ANDERSON
Don passed away August 10, 2008 in Fountain Hills, Arizona. Known as "Andy" to many, he was born January 20, 1917 in Sheet Harbor, Nova Scotia. In 1938 he graduated with a BS in Natural Sciences from St. Francis Xavier University, Nova Scotia, where he also played varsity hockey and rugby. He went on to receive a BS in Mining Engineering from the University of Illinois in 1941. Don served in Europe during WWII with the Canadian Army Engineers, receiving the Croix de Guerre with Silver Star. Following the war, while working as a mining engineer in Nicaragua, he met and married Alicia Amador. They had two sons, Robert and Stephen, and twin daughters, Janet and Julie. Don moved to Seattle in 1947 to join the University of Washington's Department of Mining Engineering where he taught until his retirement in 1982 as Professor Emeritus. He enjoyed ice skating, hiking, travel, reading, and especially poetry. He will be remembered as a kind, thoughtful man with a subtle sense of humor. He is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren who all loved him dearly.
