Alice Josephine Williams was the youngest daughter of Jessie Green Williams and Margaret Jane Dunn. She was born in Paducah, Kentucky and was only a couple years old when she became an orphan. Shortly before the civil war, her parents both died of cholera in Paducah, Kentucky.

Alice had four older siblings: Raphaella (1841); Valeria (1846); Nancy Elizabeth (1847); and Martha Catherine (1851). At the time of her parents death, her oldest sister "Raffy" took the younger siblings back to Tennessee where the girls were split up and placed with different aunts and uncles. Alice Josephine and Martha Catherine were placed together with their father's sister and brother-in-law (Nancy Emily Williams Peterson and James Peterson). The girls' sister, Nancy Elizabeth, was placed with their father's brother Perry Williams and his wife, Perlina Williams. Their sister Valeria may have died of cholera as well. Raffy was older and married a man with the last name Pope.

According to the children of Martha Catherine Williams, the Petersons (along with Alice Josephine and Martha Catherine) lived at Shiloh near "bloody pond". During the civil war the family moved but apparently stayed close enough to the battle site that Martha Catherine remembered hearing the fighting. The Petersons apparently made and sold their own whiskey (it was legal for them to do so ).

Alice Josephine married Mose Brock Anderson when she was about 15 years old. This union produced 14 children. In 1885, Alice Josephine, her husband, their children and Alice's Uncle James Peterson and Aunt Nancy Emily Peterson moved to Texas and settled on a farm near Lake Eanes.

Alice Josephine passed away on February 15, 1921.
