LEON ANDERSON

Leon Anderson, 93, long time Lone Wolf and Hobart resident, passed away June 15, 2007, at his home in Hobart, Oklahoma. He was born June 21, 1913, to George Pinkney Anderson and Mary Ellen Wisdom in Kiowa County. He attended Soldiers Spring School, which was located on his dad's farm, south of Lone Wolf, Oklahoma.

Leon married Anne E. Staggs on July 5, 1933. She preceded him in death November 4, 1982. Leon farmed all his life on a farm south of Lone Wolf near Devil's Canyon where he was born until his retirement in 1988. He loved horses, riding with his grandchildren and rode with the Okie Trail Riders in trail drives from 1983 to 1990. He also loved playing dominoes. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Hobart. Leon married Joyce Derrick-Smith in October 1986 and she accompanied him on the trail drives. She preceded him in death November 30, 2006.

Survivors include his sons Don Leon Anderson and wife Darlene of Lone Wolf, Oklahoma, and Kenneth Dee Anderson of Cold Springs, Oklahoma; and a daughter, Delia Theron Ayres of Hobart, Oklahoma; stepsons, Larry Smith and wife Radonna of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; Rex Smith and wife Bonnie of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and J.R. Smith of Red River, New Mexico; sister-in-law, Leta Autry of Altus, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and numerous family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, William T., Albert, Marshall, Tilman, and Olin (Buck); six sisters, Floy Davis, Edythee Davis, Odessa Bay, Ressie Brown, Hellen Allen and Blanche Snider; one son-in-law, Mabry Ayres; and one great-grandson, Kendrick Horton.

Funeral services for Leon Anderson were held Monday, June 18, 2007, at the First Baptist Church in Hobart, Oklahoma with Kenneth Lyles officiating. Burial followed in Lone Wolf Cemetery under the direction of People's Co-operative Funeral Home of Lone Wolf, Oklahoma.
