ABINGDON - Albert Melvin Anderson, 90, of 303 N. Austin Ave. died at 9:05 p.m. Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, in the emergency room at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg. Born June 4, 1913, in Clearbrook, Minn., to John and Sigred Ostensdalen Anderson, he married Margaret J. Jacobs on April 8, 1939, in Galesburg. She died April 25, 1993. He also was preceded in death by one granddaughter, two brothers and three sisters. Surviving are one son, John (and Margaret) of Valley Center, Calif.; three daughters, Janet (and John Casey) Heady of Abingdon, Judy (and Ted) Godsil of Galesburg and Jeanine (and Harold) Erickson of Elizabethtown, Ky.; one sister, Ruth Leister of Bemidji, Minn.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He farmed for John Martin on Illinois Route 116 for 17 years and worked at Admiral Manufacturing Co. in Galesburg for 21 years, retiring in 1978. He was a member of the former First Baptist Church in Abingdon. He also was a member of Galesburg Rescue Mission, where he was a volunteer speaker and served on the board of directors for 54 years. He formerly volunteered at the Care Center of Abingdon, where he delivered Meals on Wheels for 21 years. He also was a volunteer speaker at several area nursing homes. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel, where friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. David Scholl will officiate. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Galesburg Rescue Mission.
