Mr. & Mrs. Anderson, (her name is never mentioned), came to America about 1879, settling in Ludington, in the lower Peninsula where they married in 1888. They came to Metropolitan, Dickinson, Michigan, which was then called Milltown, in 1890 where Al worked for the Metropolitan Lumber Company in the sawmill operating a band saw. Alfred was the 1st organist, choir director & church secretary for the newly formed Lutheran Church. Alfred was Milltown postmaster from 1907-1938. He also served on the first Board of Education & was secretary for the board for over 30 years & township treasurer. Mrs. Anderson was also active in the community, as achoir director & president of the Ladies Aid, making sure their 7 children, Ellen, Arthur, Rudolph, Ruth (Solberg), Esther, Walfred, & Maurice, were also active church members.
