Arthur B. Anderson, 75, former Thomaston Postmaster, beloved husband of Charlene Spaulding Anderson, died Saturday, January 25, 2003 at Penobscot Bay Medical Center, Rockport. Born in Thomaston, June 10, 1927, he was the son of Albert R. and Marion Rokes Anderson. A lifelong resident of Thomaston, he attended local schools and was a 1945 Honors Graduate of Thomaston High School.He served in the Army Air Corps during the latter part of World War II. Upon return from his military service, he resumed his substitute duties at the Post Office as well as part time work at the local hardware and grocery stores.

During his 41 years of service with the Post Office, Arthur progressed up through the ranks to become Postmaster in 1974. He was selected as Postmaster of the Year for the Portland service area in 1980. Mr. Anderson retired in 1983 and for the next ten years, was self-employed as a carpenter and house painter.

Pre-deceased by one brother, Raymond Anderson and step-daughter, Diane Henry, Arthur is survived by his wife of 31 years, two daughters, Judith Chaffee and her husband Clarence of Vienna, VA, Debra Andreasen-Goodwin and her husband Vaughn Goodwin of Warren; one sister, Kathleen Durand of Biddeford; two brothers, Norman Anderson of Ellicott City, MD, Walter Anderson and his wife Sally of Thomaston; four step-children, Carla Henry, Dwight Henry and his wife, Michelle, Susan Henry, Allison Libby and her husband William all of Thomaston; fifteen grandchildren, Chad Johnson and his fiancée Candi Morse, Kaare Chaffee, Stuart Chaffee, Christie Chaffee, Terry Chaffee, Wyatt Chaffee, Drew Chaffee, Dara Dority-Taylor, Gavin Dority, Thomas Goodwin, Hannah Goodwin, Willow Henry-Elwell, Justin Henry, Cameron Henry, Nicolas Lemieux; two great-granddaughters, Cassidy Skye Taylor, Molly Zane Taylor; his former wife Martha Chapman Anderson of Thomaston, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
