Obituary -- EMMA DORTHA ANDERSON

Emma Dortha Anderson, 85, of Sioux City, passed away Thursday, June 14, 2007, at her residence.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2007, at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel with the Rev. Steve Swanholm officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Vistation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 18, 2007, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Emma Dortha Castle was born Oct. 4, 1921, South of Hornick, Iowa in Monona County, the daughter of Louis Jefferson and Hazel May (Fuller) Castle. She attended schools in Monona County graduating from Castana High School in 1941.

She was united in marriage to Allen A. Anderson on Oct. 11, 1941 at Dakota City, Nebraska. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1942 and had resided here since. Emma was employed by the Sioux City School District until her retirement in 1986.

She was a member of Glendale Baptist Church, was a Sunday School teacher and belonged to the Ladies Aid. Emma served as president of the Grant School P.T.A., was a Cub and Boy Scout leader, a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader and a member of the Siouxland Senior Center. Some of her loves included her family, cooking for her family and flowers. She was a big Jeff Gordon fan and enjoyed watching the Nascar races and enjoyed going to the area casinos to gamble.

Survivors include three daughters, Shirley and her husband, Will Snyder, of Sioux City; Patricia Coonen of Plattsmouth, Neb.; Bonnie and her husband, Sonny Lariviere, of Sioux City; one son, Roger and his wife, Kristi Anderson, of Elk Point, South Dakota; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; two step-grandchildren; a great-step-grandchild; and a sister, Viola Hoverman of Azusa, California.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen A. Anderson on November 15, 2006; a grandchild; two great-grandchilren; her parents; three brothers, Raymond, Howard and Albert Castle; and three sisters, Mary, Marie and Lola Castle.

Pallbearers will be Michael Snyder, Shawn Coonen, Douglas Snyder, Ronald Lariviere, Timothy Anderson and Steve Michell. Honorary bearers will be Sandy Drake, Sheila Kilakai, Garth Coonen, Brenda Michell, Willard Snyder, Sonny Lariviere, and Kristi Anderson.
