Gustave "Gus" L. Anderson, 3, 480 W. 20th, owner of the former Rates Slaughter House, died Friday morning at a local hospital of a sudden illness.
He was born Aug. 22, 1889, in Fredriksberg, Sweden. He came to the United States as an infant and the family arrived in Idaho Falls when it was known as Eagle Rock, Feb. 22, 1890.
They settled on the old Berry farm near the river and the family has lived in this area since.
He attended grade schools in Idaho Falls. He was a butcher, and apprenticed under Ralph Lewis, one of the first mayors of Idaho Falls.
He was married to Lyla May Rales Dec. 22, 1917. She died in 1955. For many years he owned and operated Rates Slaughter House, now known as Taylor Meat Co.,
He was an avid fisherman and was well known by the sportsmen of the area. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Robert (June) Remsburg and Helen Louise Anderson, both of Idaho Falls, and three grandchildren.
Sisters surviving are Mrs. Roy B. Johnson, Berkeley, Calif.; Mrs. Helen Lindquist and Mrs. Esther Imes, both from Mount Lake Terrace, Wash.; and Mrs. David Samuelson, Shelley.
A brother and sister preceded him in death.
