Glenward Anderson

Glenward W. Anderson, 88, of Yazoo City, Mississippi went to heaven April 22, 2010.

He was born to the late John Cook and Appie Anderson, March 25, 1922 in Jones County, Mississippi. After graduating from Rainey High school, Glen left the family farm and he worked as a machinist constructing invasion barges for the Navy prior to the outbreak of World War II. He married his high school sweetheart "Ethel Blanche Tisdale" in 1942 and they lived together in New Orleans until Glen enlisting in the Army Air Corp. He served in England and France until the end of end of the war keeping the bomber flying. After returning home Glen attended Watchmaking School and relocated to Yazoo City in 1947.

Glen continued is education becoming a Certified Gemologist and diamond setter. In the early fifties, Glen and Ethel opened Anderson's Jewelry store which they operated for over fifty years. Active in many civic and professional organizations, Glen was past President of the Mississippi Jewelers Association, Junior Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club and a member of the Yazoo Sportsman Association.

Glen was an active member of the First Baptist Church. He loved to travel and with Ethel by his side traveled all over the world on diamond and jewelry buying trips. He was an avid hunter and nerver missed a chance to chase a turkey, ducks or deer.

Glen is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ethel Blanch Anderson; son Ted of Raymond and daughter-in-law Melinda; daughter and son-in-law Ava and Tommy Hale of Yazoo City; son and daughter-in law, John and Pat Anderson of Yazoo City. He also is survived by ten grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made out to French Camp Academy (1 Fine Place, French Camp, MS 39745) or the Mississippi Alzheimer's Association (196 Charmant Drive, Suite 4, Ridgeland, MS 39157).
Services will be today at the Yazoo City First Baptist Church. Burial will be held at 3 p.m. at Roseland Park Cemetery 1202 West 7th Street, Hattiesburg, MS.
