He was born in Marion, Virginia on 19 August 1915, the son of Major Glenn P. Anderson and his wife, Alice Lincoln Anderson. His father graduated with the USMA Class of 1914. Glenn grew up in an Army family.
Married Agnes Rose of Cornwall-on-Hudson. That fall, they reported to Randolph Field for his flight training. The following May, Nancy was born at Fort Sam Houston and, fifteen months later Glenn P. III, was born at Fort Bragg. Geoffery and Laura were born later. Chose an Air Corps detail. He received his wings in 1939. Following posting at Forts Bragg and Benning and a six month stint at Quantico, Virginia with the Headquarters, Amphibious Corps, Atlantic Fleet, he was off to the Mediterranean Theater of Operations in October 1942. He served there and in the European Theater of Operations in World War II. He flew a fighter and ended the war as A-3, 64th Fighter Wing, Twelfth Air Force, was awarded two Bronze Star Medals for valor.
Retired 1955 and moved his family to Coral Gables, Florida where he taught math at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Miami. In 1960, Agnes died, family moved back home to Virginia. Took a position with the accounting firm of Baylor and Backus in Johnson City, Tennessee. 2nd wife Lena C. Wood, later, he took a job with Kelly Foods, Inc. in Johnson City and became its vice president and comptroller.
