CHARLES ANDERSONS OBSERVE 60TH ANNIVERSARY
Today on his 60th wedding anniversary, Charles F. Anderson feels that the day he stepped into the John Marsh Hotel & lost his heart to pretty Anna Carlson was the luckiest day of his life. They were married about 2 years later, August 26, 1883, in the Swedish Covenant Church on East Ludington Street.
Mr. Anderson came to the United States & spent a few months in Chicago before coming here to work at the Chapin Iron Ore Mine.
Mrs. Anderson came to Iron Mountain to join her 2 brothers, who also worked in the mines.
Of the 12 children born to them, 5 survived infancy: John T., now deceased; Oscar, Mrs. Albert Larson, Aurora, Wis.; Ebba & Mrs. Gilbert Anderson, East Kingsford; 13 grandchildren.
Mr. Anderson was a deputy sheriff for 12 years & sheriff for 4. He & His family were the 1st to occupy the sheriff's quarters in the county courthouse.
When he had completed is 2nd term, he bought a farm in Aurora, where the family has made their home since.
With the help of his sons he has taken care of his 180-acre farm during 2 wars. He continues to cover his own milk route. He also enjoys his hobby of bee keeping, especially the honey.
Mrs. Anderson's recipe for a long & happy marriage is strict adherence to pioneer principals & making a career of one's home & family.
Besides Mrs. Anderson's 2 brothers, now deceased, Mr. Anderson had 3 sisters: the late Mrs. Gust Rahm, Mrs. Frank Rahm & Mrs. Emma Muller, Iron Mountain.
Mr. Anderson helped build the church in which they were married & the family has been members since.
The Andersons said their greatest pleasure is a good cup of coffee & a long visit together. (August 26, 1943, The Iron Mountain Daily newspaper, Dickinson, Michigan.) The complete article can be found at the Dickinson County Library, Iron Mountain, Michigan.
