Howard was the first of 6 children born to William Rush Anderson and Amanda Jane (Lane) Anderson. William and Amanda were married on February 16, 1913 in Grant, Grayson Co., VA. Their children in birth order were Howard Lee, W. Kyle, Steven Clay, James Wade, Donald Eugene and Bill Anderson.

Howard married Josephine M. Howard on May 25, 1933 in Oshkosh, Garden Co., NE. They had 2 children, Robert L. and Patricia Anderson.

Howard Lee Anderson, 90, of Scottsbluff, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, at Beverly Health Care Center. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 29, at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel with Pastor Rod Wetzig officiating. Entombment will be in the Chapel of Peace Mausoleum at Sunset Memorial Park. A memorial has been established to Monument Wesleyan Church in care of Pastor Steve Schwartzkopf.
Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday, Jan. 28, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Howard was born Dec. 9, 1913, in Grayson County, Va., to William R. and Amanda J. (Long) Anderson. He moved with his family to western Nebraska, where he graduated from McGrew High School. He married Josephine M. Howard on May 25, 1933, in Oshkosh. Howard had a variety of employment opportunities; farm work from 1928-1941; and during WWII, he worked with aircraft in San Diego and Long Beach, Calif.
He returned home to western Nebraska, where he worked for Swift & Company from 1949-1954, and then home construction for several years. He and Josephine owned the Fairview Grocery store for about six years and later, a self-serve Laundromat. Howard retired in 1976. He was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church in Scottsbluff.
Howard is survived by his son Robert L. Anderson of Colorado Springs, Colo.; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Willis Schwartzkopf of Minatare; brothers, Wade Anderson of Beaverton, Ore., Eugene Anderson of Fort Worth, Texas, and Bill Anderson of Caldwell, Idaho; five grandchildren, Steve and Lori Schwartzkopf of Scottsbluff, Rick Schwartzkopf of Laramie, Wyo., Lori and Troy Stewart of Baker City, Ore., Angie Bissey of Colorado Springs and Michael Anderson of Louisville, Ohio; and great-great-grandson Riley Schwartzkopf.
His parents; wife; and brothers, Clay and Kyle Anderson, preceded him in death.
