EDWARD R. ANDERSEN was born in December of 1912 in Quincey, MA to Norwegian parents, Conrad and Tonnette Andersen. He was one of four boys - all now deceased.
During his growing up years, he was nourished and encouraged by a warm, close-knit Christian Norwegian community and fellowship. His Norwegian/English church was known for its choir and music program. Ed played the violin, and music was an important part of his life.
He graduated from NYU with a degree in Commerce and Finance and later completed a Masters Degree at NYU. For over 20 years, he worked for Dan River Mills in New York City - first in advertising, then sales, and later in Boston, MA. He moved to St. Louis, MO with J. P. Stevens.
In 1965, he moved to Richardson, Texas and worked as a textile manufacturer's representative. He semi-retired in 1969 and worked for RISD until he retired in 1979.
Ed married Sara Massey in 1943. Ed served during World War II in the Ordinance Department of the U.S. Army. He was a Captain at the time of his discharge. Ed grew up in a devout Methodist home and, in his married years, was active in Baptist Churches where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent, and active choir member.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sara Massey Andersen; daughter, Sharon Hale and husband Bill (Beavercreek, OH); son, James E. Andersen and wife Jo (Dallas, TX); granddaughters: Jennifer Hale Hutchinson (Nashville, TN), Stephanie Hale Kern and husband Dave (Savannah, GA), and step-granddaughter, Theresa Jacob (Dallas, TX); and three great grandchildren: Chelsea, Hannah, and Sara Hutchinson.
Family will receive friends Friday, November 12, 2004 from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at Restland Funeral Home. Celebration service of Ed's life will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, November 13, 2004 at First Baptist Church of Richardson.
Dr. Brian Harbour and Dr. Darold Morgan will officiate. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Richardson, designated for the James H. and Irene Landes Scholarship Fund. Restland 972-238-7111 restlandfuneralhome.com
