Gertrude Powell Anderkin age 89 went to be with the Lord Oct. 24, 2007. Gertrude was born Sept. 20, 1918 in Rockcastle Co. to the late Sam and Melissa Gibson Powell. Gertrude was a retired nurse from Berea Hospital where she worked for 37 years, and she was a long time member of the Fairview Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Preston Anderkin and son Johnny Viars.

Gertrude is survived by her two sons Lloyd (Lula) Viars of Berea, and George Viars of Vandalia, Ohio. Daughters Cheryl (Steve) Richardson of Berea and Tanya Viars of Vandalia, Ohio. Also surviving are 8 stepchildren: Pattie (Eddie) Roy of Massachusetts, Wanda Prather of Berea, Dorothy (Ski) Oslovsky of Texas, Gladys Gill of Berea, Frances (Dave) Cuzick of Richmond, and Frankie (Arlene) Anderkin of Mt. Vernon. She is survived by 32 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and a host of great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be Friday Oct. 26, 2007 at 2:00 pm at Lakes Funeral Home with Rev. Kenny Felty presiding. Burial will be in the Berea Cemetery beside her husband Preston. Visitation will be Friday from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm also at Lakes Funeral Home.
