Waldo Ralph Amstutz, Sr.
(February 21, 1928 - May 19, 2012)
Silverton - Waldo Ralph Amstutz Sr passed away May 19, 2012 at the age of 84 in Mt Angel, Oregon surrounded by family. He was born on February 21, 1928 in Silverton, Oregon to Amos and Elma (Haury) Amstutz.
Waldo joined the Merchant Marines at the age of 17. On August 4, 1947 he married Mae Von Dracek in Silverton. They had three sons and two daughters. Waldo worked 28 years at the cannery in Silverton that was located across the street from their family home. He retired when he was 54 from Stadeli's Boring & Tunneling. Waldo and Mae became snowbirds living in their motor home, spending the winters in Laughlin, Nevada. Each winter got longer and longer, until they made Las Vegas their home. Four years ago, they returned to Silverton to be near their children.
Waldo was a wonderful husband and father. He was their rock and will be greatly missed by all. Waldo is survived by his loving wife of almost 65 years, Mae Amstutz; their five children: Ralph (Sheryl), Chuck (Trudy), Peggy (Claude) Breitbach, Bob, and Ruth (John) Kirksey; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his three brothers, Art, Jake, and Roy.
Private services will be held on Wednesday at Miller's Cemetery. The family suggests that memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
