Interment In Magnolia Cemetery Besides His Former Companion

Funeral services for A. F. Amsler, prominent citizen of the county, was held at the local Presbyterian church last Thursday afternoon, March sixth, with his pastor, Rev. Olin Whitener in charge. He was assisted by Rev. B. M. Lawrence, pastor of the local Methodist church, and Rev. M. E. Perry, Baptist pastor. The choir furnished music.
Deceased was born in Switzerland, and migrated to the United States at the age of eighteen years. He settled in this county and several years later married the former Miss Flora M. McLeod, who preceeded[sic] him in death a number of years. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Dan McLeod, pioneer citizens of the county, and the well remembered clerk of the county for many years.
Mr. Amsler served Greene county as tax assessor for eight years, and was for more than twelve years afterwards land agent for the M. and O. Railroad Company.
Mr. and Mrs. Amsler were the parents of ten children, seven of whom are living. They are five sons, Messrs. Roy Amsler, Decatur, Georgia; Guy Amsler, Little Rock, Arkansas; Fred Amsler, Gulfport, Mississippi; Floyd Amsler, Huntsville, Alabama, and Stanley Amsler, Brooklyn, New York; two daughter[sic], Mrs. J. T. Allums, of Leakesville, and Mrs. G. L. Orr of Carthange, Miss.
Other survivors are sixteen grand children and three great grand children.
Interment was in Magnolia cemetery in the family plot beside his former companion....

In a family write up, one of his sons stated that he departed La Harve, France and arrived in New York in December 1880 on the French Steam Ship SS Labrador, and destined for Cape Girardeau, MO to visit his sick sister, Elizabeth. A passenger manifest for a voyage in that period could not be found; however that is not unusual.
