Gregorio Amoruso, beloved husband of Mrs. Maria Amoruso of Calgary, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, at the Foothills Hospital on Monday, April 7, 2003 at the age of 80 years.
Gregorio was born on October 23, 1922 in Staletti, Italy. He came to Canada on May 31, 1952 and began employment with Canadian Pacific Railway and worked there for thirty-one years. Gregorio married Maria Gentile on January 14, 1956 in Italy. He was an avid gardener, enjoyed making wine, and loved travelling.
Gregorio's greatest love was his family. Besides his loving wife Maria, Gregorio is also survived by his family, Rocco, Joe and Nancy Amoruso, Maria and Ed West, all of Calgary; two grandchildren, Michael and Gemma Amoruso. He is also survived by three brothers and sisters-in-law, Anunziato and Gesa Amoruso of Calgary, Salvatore and Giovanna Amoruso of Italy, Giovanni and Vincenzina Amoruso of Calgary; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Teresa Corasiniti, Concetta and Franco Laporta, all of Calgary, Maria Amoruso of Italy, Angela and Joseph Cortese of California; two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Pina and Agostino Nocita, Antonio and Antonietta Gentile, all of Calgary; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Gregorio was predeceased by his father Rocco in 1956 and his mother Assunta in 1973.
Funeral Mass celebrated at Our Lady Of Grace Italian & English Catholic Church (1714 - 14 Avenue N.E.) on April 11, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Joseph Sebastian, Presider. Graveside Service at Queen's Park Mausoleum.
