TRAVERSE CITY - Arthur Ray Amidon, 81, of Traverse City, died Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2005, at Munson Hospice House. Art was born in Benden, the son of Leslie and Lillian (Briggs) Amidon on Dec. 8, 1923.

In 1943, Art answered the call of duty and served in the United States Army during World War II.

While working at the State Hospital, Art met the love of his life, Marilyn Brown. They were married in Reed City on Jan. 1, 1955, and enjoyed more than 50 years together.

Art was known as a master carpenter whose skill was sought after for over 50 years. He belonged to the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and was a former member of the Antique Automobile Club, The Old Engine Club of Buckley, the Buick Club and the Audubon Society.

Art had no greater love than his family life with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He enjoyed watching the wildlife in his backyard and listening to classic music on the radio.

Art is survived by his wife, Marilyn; four daughters, Barbara (Jim) Valesano of Traverse City, Nancy Amidon of Traverse City, Diane (Danny) Reed of Spencerville, Ind., and Yvonne (John) Scott of McClenny, Fla.; brothers, retired Lt. Col. Ervan (Pat) Amidon of Traverse City and Clifford (Jeanette) Amidon of Traverse City; two sisters, Tina Wagner of Grawn, and Tricia Blackmore and her husband, Bill Cook of Traverse City; seven grandchildren, Michael, Maxine, Ava, Vince, Keely, Shana and Tina; two great-grandchildren, Cameron and Caleb; and many other loving family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Carl and Leonard Amidon.

Funeral services will take place today, Nov. 18, at noon, with visitation one hour prior, at Central United Methodist Church. The Rev. Tamara Williams will officiate.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Munson Hospice House, the National Rifle Association or Central United Methodist Church.
