Mrs Alva Eby Amick of 116 E Waterford St, widow of Dr C L Amick, died at 7 pm Thursday in Elkhart General Hospital, where she had been a patient since May 25. She had been ill six months. Death was due to complications.
Mrs Amick was born Jan 8, 1889, in St. Joseph County, the youngest of seven children in the family of Cyrus and Anna (Wenger) Eby. She attended Eby School in Penn Township and studied at Goshen College and Valparaiso University. She taught four years in Penn Township at the Sunnydale and Eby Schools.
While attending classes in Valparaiso she met Dr Amick, who was also a student there. They were married July 20, 1911, and come to Wakarusa in 1914 to make their home. The doctor practiced medicine here for 45 years. He died April 5, 1959.
Mrs Amick was a member of the Holdeman Mennonite Church from youth. She was also an active member of the Woman’s Society of Christian Service of the Methodist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs Robert (Alice) Shoemaker, a grandson, Mark Shoemaker of Indianapolis, one brother, Elmer Eby of Wakarusa, and three sisters, Mrs Alice Shrock, Mrs Emma Parrett and Mrs Agnes Sawyer, all of Mishawaka.
