A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday for Donald Gene Amheiser of 114 Hermitage Hills Blvd, Hermitage. He passed away at 10:45 a.m. Saturday, June 5, 2010, in UPMC Horizon, Farrell. He was 80. Mr. Amheiser was born Sept. 20, 1929, in Altoona, Pa., a son of John "Jack" Amheiser and Marie Dillon Amheiser. He was a graduate of Juniata High School. Donald served in the Army during the Korean conflict. Following his return home, he enlisted in the Army Reserves in Farrell, where he served for 40 years. Mr. Amheiser retired after 40 years from Sharon Steel – Brainard Strapping Division in Warren, Ohio, where he was a foreman and supervisor. Donald belonged to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5286, Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 184 and the Italian and German homes, all Farrell. Mr. Amheiser enjoyed playing golf, making puzzles and attending the Mahoning Valley Scrappers games as a season ticket holder. Survivors include: his wife, Dorothea Wagner Amheiser, whom he married April 22, 1954; three daughters, Donna and her husband Jay Hansbrough, Springfield, Ga.; Doris and her husband Francois Redi, Martinez, Calif.; and Dawn and her husband Jason Henderson, Hermitage; a son, David Amheiser and his wife Sharon, St. Louis; and four grandchildren, Jerry and Sarah Hansbrough, Kyra Henderson and Dawson Amheiser. He is also survived by his best friend, John Robertson. Donald was preceded in death by his parents.
