A memorial service to celebrate the life of Helen Marie Ames, 84, Spokane, Wash., was held Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006, at Central Lutheran Church, Spokane, Wash., preceded by interment at Riverside Memorial Park. The Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home, Spokane, Wash., was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Ames died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006, in Spokane, Wash.
She was born Jan. 5, 1922, in Madison, where she grew up. She worked at the hardware store in Mitchell and later at JC Penney in Spokane for approximately 15 years.
She was a 42-year member of Central Lutheran Church in Spokane and a member of the Sons of Norway. She volunteered in the store at Riverview Retirement Community for 22 years. She was a woman of great faith that cherished her family, who are missing her dearly.
Marie loved to bowl and play pool and was gifted at embroidery. She was an excellent cook, especially when preparing Norwegian dishes.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years: Les Ames, Spokane, Wash.; two sons and a daughter-in-law: Roger Ames, Tucson, Ariz., and the Rev. Gregory and Pam Ames, Portland, Oregon; one daughter: Diana Borgum, Sioux Falls; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter.
