"Mrs. Ethel M. Ames, aged 72, of Richfield Springs, died Tuesday, March 17, at the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown, where she had been a patient for one day. Mrs. Ames was born in the Town of Richfield on May 21, 1897, the daughter of John and Bessie (Carson) Matthews, Sr. She was married to Fred R. Ames on March 19, 1920. Mr. Ames died in 1963. Mrs. Ames had also resided in Bridgewater and had attended schools in the vicinity. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Arbutus Chapter, OES, and the Richfield Grange. Surviving are a son, Marion D. Ames; a daughter, Mrs. Edward (Dorothy) Morgan, and a brother, John Matthews, Jr., all of Richfield Springs, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 1 p. m. Friday, March 20, from the McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield Springs, with the Rev. David Hornbeck, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, Richfield Springs, officiating. Burial will be later in Lakeview Cemetery, Richfield Springs."
