Ament, Richard (Dick) Age 90, Dick died peacefully in his sleep in Chelsea, MI on December 19, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Naomi (Nan) Ament; by his sister Emily Starr of Claremont, CA; by his daughter Beth Morgan of Ann Arbor, her husband Tom Morgan, and their son, Jack; by his son of Plainfield, IN, Sterling, and his wife, Susan and their children, Max and Grace. Dick grew up in Claremont, CA and attended Pomona College and UCLA prior to World War II. In the war, he served as a meteorologist at Westover Field, MA. After the war, he received degrees in mathematics from Cornell University (undergraduate) and the University of Michigan (graduate). He worked as a statistician for the Commission on Professional and Hospital Activities in Ann Arbor for most of his professional life, before retiring in 1987. Dick found a spiritual and social home at The First Presbyterian Church of Ann Arbor, where he especially enjoyed participating in the men's group. Dick's greatest interest was classical music; he was a concertgoer, a skilled pianist and composer of many short works for the piano. He was a quiet, peaceful soul, a true gentleman who will be missed by all. A memorial service will be held at The First Presbyterian Church of Ann Arbor at 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 23 (http://www. firstpresbyterian.org). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to SafeHouse Center (http://www.safehousecenter.org).
