Alvin was born in l905 to Silas and LouFrances Moore Amburgey. He was one of several siblings, and those who lived to adulthood were: Bertha, Ida, Nellie, Hilliard, James Emmett, Clarence, Sonney Thomas and Isaac. Alvin was born in Means, Kentucky and grew up in the Mount Sterling,Kentucky area.
He encountered the Great Flu Epidemic which struck the world during l916-1920 (approx.). The Amburgey children lost their mother and two of their baby brothers on March 20, 1920 due to the flu epidemic.
As a young man of 24, he endured yet another tragedy, one which the United States faced together, The Great Depression. Alvin had four children and three marriages. His oldest children were Albert and a daughter, R. His third child by his second wife was named David and he was born in l939. When his second wife died in l955,he remarried a year later in l956 to Lavearn Sisco. Alvin and Lavearn had a daughter, Phyllis, in l958. Alvin died suddenly while working in his garden one beautiful morning in early June 1963.
The Reverend Alvin Amburgey ministered in several states in the mid-west and pastored a church in Sturgis, Kentucky. Alvin's father was also a minister, as was several of his Uncles and Great Uncles.
