Arthur A. Ambrose
Arthur A. Ambrose, 83, of Vandergrift, died Thursday, July 19, 2007, in Kittanning Care Nursing Home.
Born Sept. 11, 1923, in Vandergrift, he was the son of the late Joseph and Maria (Ardani) Ambrose and had lived in Vandergrift all his life.
Mr. Ambrose was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army.
Arthur had been employed at the Vandergrift plant of U.S. Steel as a data processor prior to retiring in 1981. He also co-owned the Country Tavern in Gilpin Township during the 1940s and 50s.
He was a member of St. Gertrude Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the VFW, all in Vandergrift, and enjoyed dancing, music and was an avid sports fan.
Mr. Ambrose was a graduate of Vandergrift High School, Class of 1942.
Survivors include a son, Arthur J. Ambrose, of Vandergrift; a granddaughter, Erin Ambrose, of State College, and a sister, Amelia Caratelli, of Indiana, Pa.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor (Panza) Ambrose, in 1985; five brothers, Frank, Domenic, James, Louis and Leonard, and three sisters, Mary Vaccaro, Carole Greene and Dorothy Blonde.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the DUNMIRE-KERR FUNERAL HOME, Vandergrift. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Gertrude Catholic Church with Father Chad Ficorilli as celebrant.
Interment will be in St. Gertrude Cemetery, Vandergrift.
The Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard will provide full military honors.
