Melva Faye Weatherly Ambrose, 89, went to be with Jesus Friday, January 28, 2011 at Albemarle Hospital.

Born in Buffalo City, NC she was the daughter of the late James Franklin Weatherly and Gladys Spruill Weatherly and the widow of Nolan S. Ambrose, Sr. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by two daughters, Susan Rae Wilson and husband Kelly of Spring Hope, NC and Melva Raye Kaighn and husband Jim of Elizabeth City, NC; two sons, Alvin F. Ambrose, Sr. and wife Myrna L. of East Lake, NC and Nolan S. Ambrose, Jr. and wife Cavell of Elizabeth City, NC; a sister, Edith Schocklin and husband Leo of Suffolk, VA; eight grandchildren Alvin W. Ambrose, Calvin F. Ambrose, Alvin Ambrose, Jr., Faye Nanney, Kim Kaighn, Stacey Pierce, Christopher Tennison, and Bonita Hurdle; eleven great grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.

She was pre-deceased by three sisters and four brothers.

A graveside funeral service will be Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at 2:00 PM at East Lake United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. David Turner officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7:00 to 8:30 PM at the funeral home. Twiford Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC is serving the Ambrose family.
