LIEUT AMASON KILLED IN OVERSEAS ACTION
Hargill - Lieut. Ethelbert Amason was killed in action over Holland January 30, 1944, according to a telegram received recently by his parents, Mr and Mrs Charles F Amason of Hargill [Texas]. He had been reported missing in action over Germany.

He was flying a P-47 Thunderbolt at the time he met his death and had been overseas about two months. Lieutenant Amason was born in Frederick, Okla[homa], December 13, 1923, and came to the Valley with his parents in 1926. He attended Edinburg High School and Edinburg Junior College. He enlisted in the Air Corps in Aug. 23, 1943 He was sent overseas November 29, 1943.
Besides his parents, he is survived by three brothers; W. D. of San Antonio, Dalton [Charles] and Randal Lee of Hargill; and one sister, Mrs. Glenn Bailey of Raymondville [Texas].

On January 30, "The 361st Group claimed its first victories during the first of two bomber escort missions when 374th Squadron pilots destroyed four Me109s near Rheine, Germany, but Lt. Ethelbert F. Amason was killed in action."

RAYMONDVILLE - Reburial services for Lieutenant Ethelbert Fowler Amason of Raymondville who was shot down over Holland on Jan. 30, 1944, will be hald at 4:30 pm Sunday.
Graveside rites will be held at the Raymondville Cemetery with Clinton Whitten, pastor of the Church of Christ, officiating. The body is to arrive in Raymondville Sunday morning accompanied by a military escort.
Lt. Amason, P-47 fight pilot was shot down while returning from a mission over Germany. He was wing commander of the 374th Fighter Squadron, 361st Fighter Group, at the time of his death. He was a graduate of Edinburg High School and Edinburg Regional College.
Survivors are his mother, Mrs. Charles Amason; a sister, Mrs Glenn Bailey of Raymondville; three brothers, W. D. Amason of Pyote, Tex., Charles Amason of San Antonio, and Randle Lee of Raymondville; and his grandfather, W H Houts of Raymondville
