Historic newspapers mentioned Martin being heavily involved in city politics and had one of the finest homes in Las Cruces.

Rio Grande Republican
April 15, 1898 P-1

Martin Amador history would make a romantic story. He came to Las Cruces when there were scarcely no homes at all.He was then a freighter between here (Las Cruces) and Kansas City. Some of the trips were little less than continuous battles with Indians often loosing mules and wagons by the dusky savages.

He now has very extension interests in Las Cruces and around the Mesilla Valley. The transfer company was exclusively owned by him in connection with his livery stable on Amador Street. The rooming house on the corner of Amador and Water Street in his property being the original Amador Hotel. His numerous buildings on Amador Street were the cause being named after him.He had a number of Alfalfa ranches and grains in the country. He was born in Juarez, Mexico and was married to a Juarez young lady.
