Florida A. "Flo" (Bleau) Amadon, 98, formerly of Phillips Avenue in Shrewsbury, passed away with her loving family at her side, on Monday, September 27, 2010, in Shrewsbury Nursing Home. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Arnold Amadon in 1982.
Flo is survived by three sons, Arnold "Bud" Amadon, Jr. and his wife Claudette of Anchorage, Alaska, Gerald "Gerry" Amadon and his wife Patty Reilly and Roger Amadon and his wife Joyce all of Wilson, Wyoming; a brother, Norman Bleau of Port St. Lucie, FL; six grandchildren, six great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother and four sisters, Walter Bleau, Albina LaMarche, H. Yvonne Fillow, Evelyn M. Gregoire and Cora Chevalier.
Flo was born in Worcester to George and Helen C. (LaPlante) Bleau on September 4, 1912.
She grew up in Worcester graduating from Worcester Classical High. In April of 1937 she married the love of her life, Arnold E. Amadon. In 1949, Flo, Arnie and their sons moved to Shrewsbury.
Flo worked for many years as an Executive Secretary at Paul Revere Life Insurance Company, before retiring in 1977.
She was a member of Saint Anne's Church where she had served as President of the church Women's League. Flo also devoted many volunteer hours at St. Anne's Human Services.
Flo was beloved by all who came in contact with her contagious smile and truly sweet disposition. Few that met her will ever forget her. She was small in stature, but blessed with an enormous heart that was devoted to her faith and family. She never missed an opportunity to travel to visit a friend or family member, or drop a hand-written note or greeting, filled with celebratory wishes, prayers or news-clippings. She was loved dearly and will be missed.
The family wishes to express special thanks to: neighbors Chuck and Linda Shigley, and nephew Joe Gregoire whose kindness allowed "Mom" to live in her home til the age of 95; the staff on Station 2 at Shrewsbury Nursing Home who cheerfully attended to her needs and made her stay there a pleasant and comfortable one; and Notre Dame Hospice for their compassionate assistance through Mom's final days.
Friends and relatives are invited to gather with Flo's family on Saturday morning, October 2, from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester.
