Herman P. Alvey Sr., 82, of Leitchfield, died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2010, at his residence. He was born Nov. 23, 1927. He was a musician and instrument builder, a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Imogene Tierney Alvey; a daughter, Kathy Lynn Alvey; two grandsons, Jarred Pharis and Bryan Stephen Ramsey; and his parents, George and Gertrude Bradley Alvey. Survivors include two sons, Bill Alvey of Big Clifty and Junior Alvey of Leitchfield; four daughters, Susie Alvey of Leitchfield, Janet Ramsey of Louisville, and Margaret Fey and Lisa Mae Pharis, both of Leitchfield; two stepsons, Larry Tierney and Denny Tierney, both of Ohio County; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. The funeral Mass is at 11 a.m. CDT Friday, Aug. 20, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Randy Howard officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation begins at 1 p.m. CDT today and continues at 8 a.m. CDT Friday at Rogers-Oller Funeral Home in Clarkson. A prayer service is at 6 p.m. CDT today at the funeral home.
