Elizabeth Eleanor (Johnston) Alton was the daughter of Judge Charleston "Charles" McCreery Johnston Sr. and the former Rebecca Ann Hammond of Bolivar, Pennsylvania. She was the granddaughter of James B. Hammond Sr., the founder of Bolivar, PA and pioneer Brick Manufacturer.
She was married to Thomas Wilson Alton, son of George W. and Anna (Squiggins) Alton of Ohio, on May 1904 in Connellsville, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, USA.
They resided in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Illinois and eventually settled in Malibu Lake in Agoura, California. They had no children. Thomas preceded her in death in 1954.
She was an accomplished pianist and when she young she played jazz music for the silent film industry.
She was a Wireless & Morse Telegraphy Instructor at the State Council of Defense, Chicago.
She loved poetry. In 1918 she wrote a poem for President Theodore Roosevelt. He sent her a thank-you letter which she treasured.
In 1948, she became the first charter member of the Methodist Church in Agoura, California. (Now the United Methodist Church of Westlake Village) After her passing they built an addition to the church naming it "Alton Hall" in her honor.
Physical description: 5'6" bright blue eyes, white hair, and very fair skin.
