Walter L. Altman Sr.
Walter L. Altman Sr., 92, of New Stanton RD1 (Middletown), died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002, in the Greensburg Care Center, Hempfield Township.
He was born Feb. 12, 1909, in Hempfield Township, a son of the late Ezra and Matilda Steiner Altman.
He was a graduate of Youngwood High School and attended Asbury College in Wilmore, Ky. Prior to retirement, he was employed by the former Walworth Co. of Greensburg as a foreman.
He was a member of the Middletown United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Men of the church and the Christian Businessmen's Committee International. He was also a former church council member, former Sunday school teacher, former member of the Westmoreland Sabbath School Association and former secretary and treasurer of the Middletown Church Cemetery Association.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Fox Altman, with whom he spent 69 wonderful years of married life; two brothers, Harry and Thomas Altman; and three sisters, Catherine Altman, Bessie Miller and Elizabeth Connor.
Surviving are a son, Walter L. Altman Jr. and his wife, Rose, of Greensburg; two daughters, Naomi Coughenour and her husband, Donald, of Rostraver Township and Patricia Allshouse and her husband, Thomas, of New Stanton RD1; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Caroline Evans of Youngwood.
Friends will be received at the BEATTY-RICH FUNERAL HOME INC., Route 136, Madison, Tuesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Middletown United Methodist Church with his pastor, the Rev. Kenneth L. Bossart, officiating. Interment will follow in the Middletown United Methodist Church Cemetery.
