Mary Virginia Lucas Altizer, 95, of Riner, passed away December 20, 2012 at Lewis Gale Montgomery.

Virginia was born January 6, 1917 to the late Monte Jackson Lucas and Margie Lester Lucas.

She is also preceded in death by, her husband of 60 years, Donnie D. Altizer; three brothers, Raymond Lucas, Randolph Lucas, and Ralph Lucas; one sister, Irene Thompson.

She spent her life as a homemaker, raising two sons, and helping her late husband on the family farm.
In addition she is well known for her time spent in the Auburn High School Cafeteria cooking and serving meals.

She was a member of the Laurel Hill Church of Christ.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Freddie and Phama Altizer, of Riner;
grandson, Josh Altizer, of Riner;
granddaughter and husband, Tara and Adam Lephew, of Riner;

three sisters, Ida Mae Bishop, Imogene Teel, and Jackie Shelton;
numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Sunday, December 23, 2012 at 2pm. at Roselawn Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Mike Battle officiating.

Friends may call after 5pm. on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at Gardner Funeral Home, where the family will be from 5 until 8pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011 or to the charity of their choice.

The family wishes to express a special thank you to Dr. Michael Payne for the years of extraordinary care provided to Virginia, and to the staff of Skyline Nursing and Rehab Center for the excellent care provided in the past few months.
