J. LYLE ALTIS RITES HELD MONDAY, JUNE 22
Funeral services were held Monday, June 22 for J. Lyle "J.D." Altis, 18-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Altis, who died Saturday, June 20 after a long illness with leukemia. Services were held in Salem by Dr. Paul Weber Jr., and interment was in Cabool Cemetery.
"J.D." was a popular member of the younger set in Salem. He was a senior at Salem High School when he became ill. During his long illness in subsequent months, classmates and other friends visited him constantly. He was also awarded his high school diploma this spring along with the other members of his class.
J. Lyle Altis was born in Cabool, August 16, 1934.
He attended the grade school in Cabool through the fifth grade. The family moved to Salem where he attended school until January of this year, his senior year.
He is survived by his parents, Roy E. and Anna Altis; one sister, Karen Sue; one brother, Steven Edward; his grandparents, Rev. and Mrs. A.W. Adkins and Mrs. Bessie Altis; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He had been a member of the Church of the Brethren of Cabool since the age of 10.
Pallbearers were Bill Wynn, Milton Flett, Bill Thomas, David Ware, Bob Coffman and Bob Allen all former classmates.
