Walter Washington Altice died today in Memorial Hospital. He had been in declining health for two years and a patient in the hospital for the past three weeks. A native of Franklin County, he was born March 1, 1883, son of Jacob A. Altice and Susan Chitwood Altice. Most of his life was spent in Danville. He was employed by the Southern Railway as a telegraph operator for 53 years. He retired 10 years ago. On Jan. 9, 1907 he married Miss Nettie Byrd, who died in February, 1961. He later married Mrs. Hattie Pruitt. He was a member of Main Street Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and two daughters: Walter Raymond Altice, Willard B. Altice, Mrs. Patton L. Evans and Mrs. Edith Elaine Joyce: two brothers and two sisters: Frank Altice, John Altice. Mrs. Euber Bennett and Mrs. Claude Harrison: six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
