Rev. Althoff Dies In Detroit, The Fremont (OH) News Messenger, 26 June 1944, p-1 c-7: Service For Venerable Lutheran Minister To Be Wednesday.
The Rev. Carl H. Althoff, 94, pastor of Emmanul Lutheran Church at Hessville for 35 years, and pastor of Trinity Lutheran church in Elmore for nine years, died a 11 p, m. Saturday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Henry Glick, in Detroit, Michigan.
Surviving members of the family are five daughters, Mrs. Frank Myers, Helena; Mrs. Harmon Harr, Elmore; Mrs. Urban Minick, Gibsonburg; Mrs. F. D. Effinger and Mrs. Glick, both of Detroit; three sons, Lewis Althoff, Fremont; Rev C. G. Althoff, Rodgers City, Michigan and Luther Althoff of Flint, Michigan.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p. m. at the home of Mrs. Frank Myers, Helena. and 2 p. m., at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Hessville. Rev. William Weigman, Rev. A. R. Lemke, Rev. A. W. Lynn, and Rev. Lilje will officiate. Burial will be from the Sabroske & Myers funeral home in Elmore, and will be in Gibsonburg North cemetery. The body will be at the home of Mrs. Myers in Helena, after 9 a. m. Tuesday.

Rev. Althoff had served as the president of the Evangelical Lutheran Joint Synod of Ohio and other states, chairman of the Board of The Ladies' Aid Society and a member of the Board of Directors of Woodville Normal School. He retired from the active ministry in 1928 and resided with family in Fremont, Helena and Detroit, Michigan before his death in 1944.
At the time of his death, he was the oldest living alumnus of Capital University. President Yochum of the Michigan District of the American Lutheran Church conducted the alter service. Other pastors took part in the service in Michigan as well as the service held the next day at the Hessville Parish.
