MRS. ALTAFFER, 82, DIES AT ELLIOTT
FUNERAL SERVICES TO BE HELD THIS AFTERNOON AT PILOT GROVE CHURCH WITH BURIAL IN EVERGREEN CEMETERY
Mrs. Barbara Altaffer, 82, resident of Montgomery County for more than half-century, died early Tuesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs Lyle Kinney, at Elliott. Mrs. Altaffer had not been well for two weeks, but was seriously ill only two days.
Short funeral services will be held at the Altaffer home at 1:30 p.m. this Thursday afternoon followed by services at the Pilot Grove Curch at 2 p.m. Rev. O. C. Ellis of Elliott will have charge. Pall bearers will be Neal Buss, Paul Lathrup, John Chickering, Glen W. Stafford, Harold Smith, and A. C. Fada. Music will be by Mrs. Lawrence Boyer, soloist, and Mrs. Theo Thompson, pianist. The floral committee includes Mrs. Vernon Kneedy, Mrs. Clarence Thomas, and Mrs. Paul glitter. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, with Perryman service.
Barbara Pence, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Pence, was born June 24, 1865 in Rockingham County, Virginia. She was married there February 27, 1894 to James Franklin Altaffer and they came to Montgomery County that same year. Mr. Altaffer died November 4, 1929 and Mrs. Altaffer had counted to make this her home. She was a member of the Pilot Grove Methodist Church.
Surviving are two sons, three daughters, seven grandchildren and a sister. The children are Maurice and Virgil Altaffer, Mina Helen Altaffer and Mrs. Richard Mooney, all of Red Oak and Mrs. Lyle Kinney of Elliott, Joseph Pence and Mrs. Maggie Barber, both of Fort Republic, Virginia are brother and sister of the deceased.
