Clarence Alston, 79, a resident of 503 23rd St., Gulfport, a retired sanitation department employee for the city of Gulfport, died Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Gulf View Haven Nursing Home in Bay St. Louis. He had been a patient there for eight days. Mr. Alston was born Aug. 25, 1893, in Quitman County, Miss., and had resided for most of his life on the Coast. He had resided at his present address for six years. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Mr. Alston is survived by his wife, Mrs. Hattie Webb Alston, Gulfport; two sons, Clarence O. Alston and Bobby Lee Alston, both of West Memphis, Ark.; one daughter, Mrs. Emma Mae Berryhill, Memphis, Tenn.; one sister, Mrs. Lillie French, Memphis;p 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Friends may call after 7 o'clock this evening at Riemann Funeral home in Gulfport. The funeral service will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in Evergreen Gardens.
