|Death: ||Apr. 8, 1874|
Linn County Coroner's records show an inquest into the death of Allen Alspach, who was a brakeman for the Burlington Cedar Rapids and Minnesota Railway. While working on repairing a brake on the Slough Track (also known as the "invalid" track), the cars were set into motion which trapped him and caused death by crushing.
The coroner ruled that there was gross negligence on the part of the railroad, but there is no indication of any penalties assigned.
Cost of burial was paid by Linn County, and as there is only one other Alspach in this county I've placed him in the Fairfax Cemetery.
