Married to Virginia Louisa Yerby; father of Ernest Braxton Alsop, Hannah Meredith Yerby Alsop, Mary Eloise Power Alsop, George Yerby Alsop, Frederick William, and Caroline M. Alsop McNeill.
He received his M.D. degree from the Medical Dept. of the University of Louisiana in 1862. His was the last class before the end of the Civil War. That school is now Tulane University.
Confederate States Army Assistant Surgeon; he was assigned to the Richmond, Va. Chimborazo Hospital, Division 1 tent wards, from 1862 - 11/26/1863, when he was relieved. He was then assigned to Chimborazo Hospital's Division 3, reporting on 9/21/1864. He was often absent for duty with the Local Defense Forces.
