Alsobrook, David F. Sr., 83. passed away quietly at his home surrounded by his devoted family on Saturday, July 10. He is remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, brother, caring friend and a true Man of God to all who knew him. David was born December 3, 1926 in Jacksonville, the third of four sons of the late Irving C. and Lucile V. Alsobrook, Sr. David left Andrew Jackson high school early to join the U.S. Coast Guard in 1944 and served his country until the end of World War II. Professionally, he was associated with Jake Davis Delivery service, work for the Jacksonville Police Dept and worked for Barton Security. David worshiped and served at Southside Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). He led the mens group, sang in the choir, worked with the youth, taught the same Sunday school class for 50 years, served on the board, served as elder and was a lay minister. David was just recently given the honor of Elder Emeritus at Southside. He also served as a leader in the Florida State Disciple Mens Fellowship and was chosen as the Laymen of the Year in 2009. His God, family, church and country were the most important things in his life. He worked hard all his life to provide for his family, support his church and serve his country. David was preceded in death by the his brothers, Irving C. Alsobrook, Jr., and William E. Alsobrook and is survived by his wife of 59 years, Doris; his daughter, Celeste Willis; his son, David Alsobrook, Jr. his brother, Alvin V. Alsobrook, Gainesville, and many nephews, nieces and cousins in Florida, Georgia and Alabama. A celebration of David's life will be held at Southside Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) 6755 Atlantic Blvd. on July 31, 2010 at 2:00 pm. Please bring stories to celebrate David's life and help us remember the wonderful man he was. He will be buried at a later date at the new Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, please send any memorial donations in David's honor to Southside Christian Church, 6755 Atlantic Boulevard Jacksonville, FL 32211-8729. These donations will be used for David's last project at the church by adding benches to the outside chapel. Arrangements by National Cremation and Burial Society, 6940 Atlantic Blvd., Jacksonville.
