PERRYVILLE-- A man and his nephew died Friday evening while trying to turn on electricity at a tenant farm house on Cocanougher Lane, Boyle County Deputy Coroner Mike Wilder said.
Harold Alsman, 46, and Jackie Lee Alsman, 15, were electrocuted at 8:20 p.m. on Ted Devine's farm when the metal antenna they were using to switch on a fuse fell against a hot transformer charged by about 7,200 volts of electricity, Wilder said. The jolt immediately killed them.
The Alsmans had strapped a broom handle to the end of the antenna so it could reach the Inter-County Rural Electric Cooperative Corp. transformer. Harold Alsman was moving into the tenant house, so they were trying to turn on the electricity.
He had been living with his brother and Jackie Lee's father, James Alsman of 315 W. Fourth St in Perryville.
Harold Alsman was born Jan. 1, 1946, in Mercer County and was the son of the late Charlie and Bessie Maybrier Alsman.
In addition to his brother, survivors inelude a sister, Edith Mae Wright of Danville; and two other brothers, Earnest Alsman and Edgar Alsman, both of Perryville.
Jackie Lee Alsman was born Feb. 3, 1977, in Mercer County and was a student at Boyle County High School.
In addition to his father, survivors include his mother, Darlene Shannon Alsman; a sister, Melinda Alsman; and a brother, James "Junior" Alsman, all of 315 W. Fourth St. in Perryville.
A combined funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Wilder Funeral Home, Perryville, with the Rev. Jimmy Owens. Burial will be in Junction City Cemetery.
