Carrie Lee Burress Alsbrooks, 96, widow of George Ferdinand Alsbrooks, died Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010, at a local nursing facility.

Born in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late Rufus Clarence and Carrie Olivia Kilpatrick Burress.

Mrs. Alsbrooks was a charter member of Alice Drive Baptist Church, a member of the Women's Sunday school class and a member of the Women's Missionary Union. She was a member of the Bland Garden Club and a member of the Wedgefield Girls.

Surviving are her son, Ferdie Alsbrooks and wife, Jule, of Clemson; her daughter, Frances Watson of Sumter; three sisters, Evelyn Carr, Isabel Burress of Sumter and Josie Loflin of Colonial Heights, Va.; seven grandchildren, Julie A. Craddock, Pat Watson, Tripp Alsbrooks, Mike Watson, Lynn A. McDonald, Donna Watson and Susan Alsbrooks; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband of 72 years; two brothers, Willie Burress and M.C. Burress; and three sisters, Bettie Ethel Burress, Ruth B. Davis and Vivian B. Lachicotte.

Mema was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to all.

The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to the administration, nurses and CNA's at National Healthcare for the love and care they bestowed upon Mrs. Alsbrooks.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with Dr. Clay Smith officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.

Grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter

Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
