Bessie M. Shipman, daughter of the late Thomas L. and Carrie Tracer Allstun, was born near Dexter on March 28, 1899, and died at the Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Center in Dexter, on October 3, 1997 at the age of 98.

Mrs. Shipman was a resident of the Dexter area all her life and a member of the Church of Christ in Dexter.

On March 10, 1916, she was married to William Ernest Shipman at Dexter. Mr. Shipman preceded her in death on December 19, 1975.

Survivors include three sons, Charles Shipman of Bloomfield, Willie Shipman and Dale Shipman both of Dexter; three brothers, Arthur Allstun of Patterson, Walter Allstun and Loren Allstun both of Dexter; three sisters, Ruth Larsen of Bloomfield, Lucy Harrison and Alice Abbott both of Dexter; 22 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. One son, Lester Shipman and one daughter Christeen Crowe preceded her in death and one brother and three sisters preceded her in death. Other friends and relatives also survive.

Visitation was held at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter from 5-8 p.m. on Saturday, October 4, 1997. Funeral Services were conducted in the Watkins and Sons Chapel in Dexter, on Sunday October 5, 1997 at 2 p.m. with Brother Dale Grissom of Dexter officiating. Burial followed in the Hagy Cemetery in Dexter, with Watkins and Sons Funeral Home of Dexter in charge of all arrangements.
