COOKEVILLE -- Funeral services for Madgty Marie Lawhorn, 78, of Cookeville will be held tomorrow, November 6, at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of Whitson Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Crest Lawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Lawhorn died Sunday (November 4, 1990) in Cookeville
General Hospital.
Born December 25, 1911, in Putnam County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas David and Etta Callie Warren Allison.
She was a school teacher for 38 years and retired from the Putnam County Board of Education. A member of First Baptist Church since 1947, she was a Sunday School teacher for four years, general secretary in Sunday School for many years and recreation chairman and program chairman for Nash Grove Women's Missionary Union for several years. She was a member and past matron of the Eastern Star since 1947; worthy matron 1953-54; and secretary and treasurer for several years. She served as president of the Twin Oak Home Demonstration Club from 1939-40; secretary for four years; devotion leader and reporter for several years. She was treasurer of Algood PTA for two years; secretary-treasurer of Putnam County Coucil for two years; president, vice president and treasurer of Putnam County ACE each for two years. She was graduated from Baxter Seminary in 1929 and from TPI in 1952. She taught one year at Twin Oak, eight years at Nash's Chapel, two years at Thomas, one year at Silver Point and 26 years at Algood. She also served as chairman of the Algood area curriculum group for two years; was a member of the steering committee for two years and worked on the planning committee two years. She was chairman of Putnam County Children's Art Exhibit for one year, worked on the English and arithmetic textbook committee one year each, helped take census in 1945 and operated a country store 15 years.
Her survivors include her husband, Hugh Lee Lawhorn of Cookeville and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Lawhom was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Pauline Allison Brandt and Josephine Allison Oberhausen; two brothers, Gilbert Body Allison and Elkoney Albert Allison.
