CARLISLE - Mary Catherine Allison Knapke
73 died August 23, 2012 at the Nicholas County Hospital. She was the wife of Ken Knapke of Carlisle for nearly 51 year and the daughter of the late A.V. (Doc) and Geneva Calbraith Allison. Mary Catherine was a lifelong Nicholas Countian and a proud 1956 graduate of Carlisle High School as well as an officer of the CHS Alumni Association for many years. She was also a graduate of the Saint Joseph School of Nursing and spent her career of 44 years as a registered nurse at Nicholas County Hospital. She was a member and time organist at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. She was a member of the Annunciation Church Choir, the Nicholas County Historical Society, Carlisle/Nicholas Tourism, the Nicholas County Ministerial Society and the Carnico Chicks Red Hatters. She was instrumental in the development of the Nicholas County Relay for Life and was a recipient of the Joan W. Conley Humanitarian Award. She had also served the Carlisle Methodist Church as organist for over 3 years. In addition to her husband she is survived by her children Michelle (Phillip) McDonald, Pat (Barb) Knapke, Mary Beth (Rick) Hunt. Alison (Terry) Heitmeyer and Chris Knapke. Her beloved grandchildren Caitlin Hunt, Colin Hunt, Mary Catherine Heitmeyer, Lily Heitmeyer and lacy Knapke. A sister Pat Allison, a very special friend Brenda Lecther and a host of family and friends. Visitation will be Monday, August 27, 2012 5-9pm at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11am on Tuesday and burial will follow in the Carlisle Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass, The Nicholas Country Historical Society or the American Cancer Society. The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of Hospice of the Bluegrass and the staff of Nicholas Country Hospital for their support and loving care.
