Cartersville, Ga. - Former East Liverpool businessman H. James Allison, of Burnt Hickory Road, Cartersville, Ga., passed away at 12:05 a.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2009 at the Waldrop Assisted Living Center in Cartersville, following a lengthy illness. Arrangements are pending at the Dawson Funeral Home.

Cartersville, GA Former East Liverpool businessman H. James Allison, Jr., of Burnt Hickory Road, Cartersville, GA, passed away at 12:05 a.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2009 at the Waldrop Assisted Living in Cartersville, following a lengthy illness. He was 83. Born in East Liverpool on April 16, 1926, he was the son of the late Harold J. Allison, Sr., and Helen Anderson Allison. A 1944 graduate of East Liverpool High School, Mr. Allison furthered his education at Ohio Valley Business College and at Westminster College, and later received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Youngstown State University. Mr. Allison was an Army Air Force veteran and served his country during World War II as a rear tail gunner. Following the war, he returned to East Liverpool where he worked at the former Litton Motors as an office manager. He later became associated with the former First Federal Savings & Loan in East Liverpool, where he served as president for many years. After a move to Texas, he was employed as Senior Vice President of American Savings, of Lake Jackson, TX and a later move to Orlando, FL as a CMA property manager for Wilson Management Group. A former member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in East Liverpool, Mr. Allison had at one time been an elder, a deacon and a member of the Board of Trustees. He also attended St. Stephen's Episcopal Church while he lived in East Liverpool. In addition, he was past President of the East Liverpool Rotary Club, a life member and president of the East Liverpool Jaycees, a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, the East Liverpool Country Club, the Elks Lodge, and had been a Boy Scout and Boy Scout leader, as well as a coach of the First Federal little league baseball team at one time. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rachel Stewart Allison on January 20, 1965, and their son, Stewart L. Allison, who died on March 5, 1980. Also preceding him on March 8, 1999 was his wife, Shirley Manning Allison. Survivors include his two daughters, Nancy Moore and her husband, Thomas, of Cartersville, GA, and Joyce Larson and her husband, Timothy, of Orlando, FL. There are three stepsons, Thomas Long and Dr. Timothy Long, both of Friendswood, TX, and Samuel Long of Dayton, TX. One grandson, Nicholas L. Larson of Orlando, FL, seven step-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren survive as well. Also surviving is one sister, Jane Burns of Orlando, FL, along with several nephews and nieces. Another sister, Nancy Forsyth, preceded him in death. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the wonderful staff of the Waldrop Assisted Living for the extreme devotion, expression of love and utmost compassion, as well as a special thank you to the Regency Hospice of Cartersville staff. Friends may call at the Dawson Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Mill Creek Hill Cemetery in Georgetown, PA., where the Tri State Veterans Burial Group will accord full military honors. Friends and family will then gather at the Dawson Family Center for a time of fellowship.
